Hurricane Fausto is about 1000 miles south of Pt Conception and moving north and west towards the Hawaiian Islands through the weekend. Swell from Fausto should start to show later today in So Cal and fill in through the weekend Santa Cruz north. Could see similar size as the swell from Tropical Storm Elida a week ago - perhaps a touch bigger as Fausto was a larger storm. Our local NOAA weather forecasters are hinting we might see breakers up to 10ft on favorable south facing breaks, not sure it's going to get that large, have to see what the buoys start to show Saturday morning. For now, think deepwater 4-5ft is easily possible with mid periods in the 14sec range. At the same time, more swell from the corridor near NZ due through the weekend 2-3ft at 19-21 seconds from 210-215 degrees. The combination of the Fausto swell and the NZ swell might be what the NOAA models are picking up on and merging the two into a larger event. For sure this is highly possible as when swells from the same direction overlap - whether it be north or south, this can combine to make the overall swell state larger. Winds look decent through Saturday and might come up from the northwest again more strongly Sunday into next week. Cya in the water.
